ChordStyler v1
MIDI Arranger / Composer
ChordStyler is a real-time MIDI-generating plugin for songwriters, producers, and composers. Build or generate chord-based song ideas, arrange them into parts like verses and choruses, then use styles to transform the harmony into musical piano patterns, accompaniment parts, bass movement, or melodic phrases.
What Is ChordStyler?
Introductory video coming soon.
Description
ChordStyler is built for creating chord-based song ideas inside your DAW. Start with a progression, split it into song parts, and edit chords on a clear timeline. Each part can have its own key, scale/mode, time signature, lanes, octave range, velocity, and assigned style, giving you practical control over how the harmony is performed.
Styles are the heart of ChordStyler. A style turns your chord timeline into MIDI notes, so the same progression can become a piano pattern, left-hand/right-hand accompaniment, bass-focused arrangement, or melodic phrase. Use the included factory styles, import your own MIDI clips, or build reusable user styles with the built-in Style Editor and Auto Fit tools.
ChordStyler follows your DAW transport and outputs MIDI to your instruments real-time, with an internal preview synth available while you sketch. When an idea is ready, you can render, drag, or export MIDI for further arranging, or save complete ChordStyler song and style packages for reuse and sharing.
System Requirements and Recommendations
DAW Compatibility
Last updated: July 3rd 2026
ChordStyler is available as VST3 and AU plugins. Because each DAW handles plugin MIDI routing a little differently, we recommend trying ChordStyler in your own setup with the free Preview or 14-Day Trial license before committing to purchasing a full license.
If it works smoothly, we would love to hear which DAW and version you used. If you run into routing or compatibility issues, that feedback is just as useful. It helps us improve ChordStyler and keep the compatibility list below accurate for other users. Let us know using the contact page.
Known Compatible DAWs
Ableton Live, Ardour, BitWig, Cakewalk Sonar, Cubase, Digital Performer, FL Studio, Logic Pro, Mixcraft, MuLab, Nuendo, Reaper, Renoise, Waveform.
DAWs with Limited Support
- Garageband, LUNA, Sandyne, Samplitude, Reason
- ChordStyler loads and its internal preview synth works, but these DAWs do not appear to route MIDI generated by third-party VST3/AU instruments to another instrument or track.
- You can still author songs with ChordStyler using its internal preview synth and then either drag-and-drop the song parts as MIDI to another track or export the entire song into a MIDI file then import it back to another virtual instrument track.
- It is possible to get ChordStyler driving another virtual instrument live with these DAWs by using a bridge plugin such as Modalics Plugin Buddy.
Unsupported DAWs
- Pro Tools
- Due to the complexities around supporting AAX plugin format Pro Tools is not currently supported. This may change in the future. Please do let us know if you are interested in using ChordStyler with Pro Tools!
- It is possible to get ChordStyler working in Pro Tools and driving another virtual instrument live by using a bridge plugin such as Modalics Plugin Buddy.
Supported Operating Systems
Mac OS
- Apple Silicon (
arm64) and Intel (x86_64) via universal macOS binaries (No Rosetta required). - macOS 11.0 or newer.
Windows
- Windows 10 or newer (
x64)
Linux
.deband.tar.gzbinaries are built on Ubuntu 22.04 (x86_64).rpmartifacts are built on AlmaLinux 9 (x86_64).
For Linux the .tar.gz package with the included install-linux.sh script is the recommended installation way as by default it installs the plugin bundle under ~/.vst3/ folder where most DAWs will look into by default. The .deb and .rpm packages will install the bundle system wide and you will most likely need to configure your DAW to scan these folders manually.
